U3A OVERVIEW
U3A is an international movement providing opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to participate in learning activities, both educational and recreational. Currently, in the UK there are some 600 individual U3A’s, and 166,000 members. Northern Ireland has 25 U3A Groups, and membership of: 8,000, with U3A’s ranging in size from 60 to 2,000 members.
Each U3A operates independently and the day-to-day running of the organisation is carried out by elected Committee Officers and Members. Provision of Meetings, Guest Speakers, Activities and Events provide opportunities to broaden experiences to enhance lives. All U3A’s are affiliated to the Third Age Trust (TAT), which is the national support and advisory body.
