The Group leader is Sam Cochrane and the facilitator, GeoffreyRobinson. We meet every month (usually the 3rd Thursday in the month). During the spring and autumn months we try to visit gardens (whether public or private), garden centres, etc. In autumn last year, we spent a very enjoyable few hours at Botanic Gardens in Belfast. During the winter months finding places to visit is more difficult and we will watch gardening DVDs or discuss gardening topics. There is quite a bit of knowledge within our wee group.
It’s all very informal and the craic is good.
On Thursday 26th January, for example, Sam played a DVD on the subject of growing trees and shrubs. Afterwards Marie provided us with a very welcome cup of tea/coffee and an endless supply of pancakes, scones and wee buns. Geoffrey Robinson then gave us a demonstration of how to take cuttings from roses. A great way of sourcing new rose plants at no cost.
